Fire destroys four shops, two rooms in Kano

The Kano State Fire Service said fire had destroyed four temporary shops at Kasuwar Mariri (‘Yan Itace) Market in Dawakin Local Government area in Kano. The Spokesman for the State Fire Service, Alhaji Saidu Mohammed, told the News Agency of Nigeria in Kano on Thursday that the four shops were razed down completely. “We received a distress call in early hours of Thursday morning at about 02:38 am from one Ismail Mohammed that there was fire outbreak at the market. “On receiving the information, we quickly sent some of our personnel and fire fighting vehicles to the scene of the incident at about 02.45 a.m to quench the fire so as not to affect other shops,“ he said. He said that the cause of the fire was still under investigation. In a related development, Mohammed disclosed that at about 10:35am also on Thursday, two rooms also got burnt in a house along Onitsha Road in Sabon Gari, while two other rooms were slightly affected. My “Pastor-husband” sleeps with his members- Wife

A woman has accused her pastor-husband of sleeping with his female church members, consequently seeking the dissolution of their 18-year marriage. In her petition before a Mapo Customary Court in Ibadan, Grace Adekunle had accused her husband, Pastor Adeyemi Adekunle, of impregnating two of his member. The claimant, a school teacher, had informed the court that her husband, a pastor, had abandoned and paid no attention to her and children. Grace said, “First, Adeyemi has shown no form of responsibility on any of the five children and me since he became a pastor a number of years ago. “Adeyemi neither makes provision for their feeding nor sends them to school. One message Adeyemi has repeatedly passed to me is that I shouldn’t expect him to send the children to school because he is a poor man of God . “He also said that I saw him as a pastor before I willingly married him. As a result, none of our children whose ages range between eight and 16 is cur...

Kano Traders close shops over Buhari’s Campaign

Traders in Kano State have closed their shops in Kano for President Muhammadu Buhari’s continuation of campaign for his re-election in the forthcoming presidential poll. Traders who spoke with the News Agency of Nigeria said they needed to shut down for security reasons, while some said they closed their shops to enable them to attend the function. Malam Usman Bala, a shop owner at the famous Kwari textiles market, said many shops remained shut because the venue of the presidential rally was close to the market. “In order to safeguard our goods, many of us did not even go to the market, while some opened for few hours in the morning, and then, shut down,” Bala said. Similarly, petty traders around Murtala Muhammed Specialist Hospital and Rimi market also said that they closed their shops due to closeness to the venue of the event. ASUU denies receiving N163bn, say strike continues…..

   The Academic Staff Union of Universities has denied receiving any fund from the Federal Government.  The union called on the Federal Government to stop distorting facts about funds released to the union.  The President of the union, Prof. Biodun Ogunyemi, made this comment in an interview with The Nation newspaper over the weekend.  Ogunyemi said the ongoing strike was still lingering due to a few disagreements between the government and the union on the mode of releasing the agreed funds.
